JESSE F. BURLEIGH DIES AT VERNON
Well Known Resident Passes Away After Short Illness
VERNON - Jesse F. Burleigh died this morning after a period of ill health extending over several years. An esteemed citizen, kind husband and father, and good neighbor his passing is mourned by a large circle of friends.
Jesse Freemont Burleigh, was born in Verona May 14, 1857, a son of the late Addison and Melinda Jane Betts Burleigh. His marriage to Mary Elizabeth Dapson occurred December 23, 1880. While living in Verona, Mr. Burleigh drove a stage route between Verona Station and the Verona Springs House. For years he was a cheese maker west of the village and then lived on Cooper Street where he had a milk route for eleven years and raised fancy poultry taking many premiums at New York City and Syracuse poultry show. He lived in the village for several years. He was a charter member of Sconondoa Lodge, F&AM No 814 and M. E. Church at Verona.
Besides his wife, Mr. Burleigh is survived by the following children: A. Leslie, Dr. W. Forest Burleigh, Oriskany Falls, Mrs. W. H. Sturtevant and nine grandchildren. A son, Jesse C., died Aug 15, 1921 and another son, Francis LeRoy, at the age of six months. There also survives one sister, Mrs. A. F. Pine, Vernon; two brothers, J. R. Burleigh, Georgetown Station, and J. Sherman Burleigh, Montgomery, Mich.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at the home at 1:30 p.m.

Masonic Rites For Jesse F. Burleigh
Vernon, March 4, Funeral services for the late Jesse F. Burleigh were held from the Masonic Temple of Sconondoa Lodge of which he was a charter member, Sunday afternoon. The lodge which he served as secretary for several years soon after it was organized convened at 12:45 and going to the home accompanied the body to the Temple where the funeral oration was delivered by R. W. Addison, D. Gordinear assisted by Rev. E. C. Planter, pastor of the Baptist Church as Chaplain. A large space back of the casket was banked with floral tributes of neighbors and friends and fraternal bodies with which he was identified.
The bearers wee J. G. Tillman, George H. Chandler, Frank E. Dapson, Charles A. Burg, George A. Mummery and Robert Lundgren. Interment was made in the Verona Cemetery where the lodge committal service was given.
Among those who attended from out of town were; Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Burleigh of Georgetown, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. William J. Dapson of Herkimer; Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Dapson of Little Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Curtis of Syracuse .
