Dennis Sughrue & his wife, Sarah, came to the banks of the Aroostook River in 1836 from Canada. Susan Reynolds says that Dennis and his white mule "Bab" portaged around the Aroostook Falls during the bloodless Aroostook War. He was first on one side then the other. Peaceable to all and a very willing worker, building Alexander Cochran's grist mill. many of the Eaton Grant settlers helped build Sandy Cochran's first grist mill; David Doody shaved the shingles for the roof; David G. Parks was the boss carpenter; James Calkins, Elisha & Dennis Hale, Dennis Sughrue, Laurence Kelly & James Doyle help build the dam. Jonah Whiteneck built the water wheel that lasted until the mill was torn down in 1865.

Dennis Sughrue, the father of Daniel, came from Ireland & settled on Eaton Grant in 1836. He hated the English more than he feared the devil. He was born in Ireland in 1793 & died Feb. 10, 1874 & placed to rest in the old Bubar cemetery on the Caribou-Fort Fairfield Road.
