Rev. Frank Murphy, 62, of the Horton Hill Community, went home to be with the his Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at his home.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Echard and Nettie Hensley Murphy. He was a loving and devoted husband, pastor, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a full and joyful life.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 43 blessed year, Helen McKinney Murphy; two daughters, Donna Miller and husband, Mike, and Mary Ellen Robinson and husband, John Edward, all of Green Mountain; two sisters, Lois McKinney and husband, James, of Green Mountain, and Ruth Silvers and husband Ronnie, of Burnsville, two brothers, Jack Murphy and wife, Margaret, of Burnsville, and Rev. Tommy Murphy and wife, Jean, of Green Mountain; a granddaughter, Julie Peterson and husband, Jusitn; and three grandsons, Frank and Shawn Robinson and Donovan Miller; 14 nieces and 13 nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Elk Shoal Baptist Church, of which he was pastor for 30 years. The Revs. Luther Carver and Howard Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Rueben McKinney Cemetery on Horton Hill Road in Green Mountain. Pallbearers will be Jack Ramsey, Josh Ramsey, Tommy King, Danny Ray, Kenny Renfro, Doug Swann, Lynn Peterson and Jerry Griffith. Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Holcombe Brother Funeral Home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
