Eva Carey Holmes was born on April 25th, 1921 in Hulbert, OK, the daughter of Nelson Carey and Nannie Crittenden. She came into the world accompanied by her twin brother, Steve Carey. There were eight brothers and sisters in the home besides Eva. She married Jim Holmes , her husband died young in the 50's, leaving her a widow. Eva raised her children, a son, Mitchell and one daughter, Eva Marie, and was a homemaker all of her life. She adored being home in her familiar surroundings caring for those she loved. She loved to cook and always had a pot of brown beans, fried potatoes, dumplings, and petite biscuits. The coffee pot was always ready for a guest, and the occasional fortunetelling with the guests coffee grounds. Eva was small in stature but had plenty of heart! Her door was opened to many of her nieces and nephews, and she loved each and every one of them like they were her own. She rarely lost her temper, but if she did, you probably didn't want to stand by to watch! Eva was devoted to her parents, husband, children, grandchildren and her entire family. She was a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church and you could find Eva at church every Wednesday and every Sunday, worshipping and spending time with her church family. The Lord called Eva from this earthly life on December 31st, 2013 in Tahlequah, OK with her family by her side. She was 92 years old. She will be greatly missed by her family for her love, her courage and her strength. Eva is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim Holmes, her beloved daughter, Eva Marie Carey McDaris in 1995, and her son-in-law, Doug McDaris, and her sisters, Callie Smith, Maddie Belt, Ella Catron, Farris Stayathome, Nancy Catron Johnson, and brothers, John Catron, Halfway Carey, and her twin, Steve Carey.
