Hubert Leon Bratton

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Chapel in Porterville, California and interment will follow at Vandalia Cemetery for Hubert Leon Bratton of Porterville, California.

Leon passed away on November 4, 2005 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Polly, one brother, Ras Bratton, and eight half brothers and sisters.

Hubert Leon Bratton was born at home on March 29, 1918 in an area called Happy Hollow, about 6 miles outside of Leslie, Arkansas.

He was the last child of Francis Marion Bratton, a Civil War Veteran, and Mattie Cooper Watts Bratton.

Leon lived in San Diego, CA for 15 years before moving his family to Porterville in 1956.

He was a plumber in the local area for 35 years and worked on construction projects including Monache High School, Sierra View Hospital and Porterville College.

He retired after more than 50 years in the plumbing industry.

Leon had many fond memories of dancing to the big bands like Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk, Spade Cooley, Glen Miller and Bob Wells at the ballrooms in San Diego.

He enjoyed taking the family to the San Diego Zoo, to the park for a picnic lunch and to the mountains for a weekend.

He was very involved with Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach.

He loved to fish and camp in the mountains above Porterville and have big family picnics.

He loved to design and build things out of old or new materials.

He was always helping family and friends and neighbors with whatever tasks or repairs were needed.

He was a Charter Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Porterville.

Leon will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.

Leon is survived by daughters; Nancy Berkovich and Ann Bratton; son-in-law Gary Berkovich, all of Porterville; grandsons, Rick Berkovich and Daren Griswold of Porterville; granddaughters, Debbie Taylor of Upland, CA, DeDe Phillipes of Emmaus, PA, Erin Bailey of Fairmont, WV and Stephanie Wilson of Porterville; twelve great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild.

Leon was a humble man who truly loved to help others. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel.
