Northern Wyoming Daily News:

"WORLAND – Longtime Worland resident Ruben Adam Lungren, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at Washakie Medical Center following a stroke. Ruben was born Nov. 24, 1922 to Adam and Elizabeth (Deines) Lungren in Nisland, SD. He was the 5th of 10 children.
The family moved to Worland when Ruben was an infant. He grew up working with his family on various farms in the area. His strong work ethic was developed at an early age while working long hours in the beet fields.
Ruben was an excellent athlete. While in high school, he was named to both the football and basketball All-State teams. He also participated in the Jr. League baseball team as the first baseman.
After Ruben graduated from Washakie County High School in 1943, he was drafted by the Army. He spent his Army years as a member of the military police stationed in Germany during World War II.
Shortly after Ruben returned home from the war, a pretty young nurse from Nebraska, Charlene G. Stratton, caught his eye. On July 27, 1947 they were married in Worland at the original Zion Lutheran Church, and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Ruben and Charlene had five children – Kerry, Mark, Robert, Kirk and Mary Jane.
Upon his discharge from the Army, Ruben returned to Worland where he worked with his father and his brother, Lloyd in the Adam Lungren & Sons farming and ranching operation located on South Flat Road. Ruben was very particular when it came to preparing the ground and planting crops. He was well known for his very straight rows. He and his brother continued in the farming business as Lungren Brothers until Ruben retired in 1997. After his retirement, he continued in his love of farming by helping area farmers with their planting and harvesting for several years.
Ruben loved spending time at the ranch in Ten Sleep and in the mountains at the cabin. He taught his children and grandchildren by doing, whether it was fixing fence, riding for cattle, hoeing in the beet field or baiting a fish hook.
Ruben enjoyed gardening, raising a large variety of vegetables and beautiful roses. He was proud of his gardens and worked hard to keep them weed-free. Often, to the chagrin of his neighbors, Ruben played loud classical music to his plants several times a day. He loved to share his produce by making and giving away his "top-secret" salsa.
Ruben was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. When the new church was built in 1970, Ruben was involved in the inside finish work with dry walling, plastering, painting and staining. He also was a member of the Worland Elks where he had served on the Board of Trustees; the American Legion Post #44; and the VFW.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Elizabeth Lungren; his sisters, Alvena Barnes, Molly Schaff and Irma Geis; his brother, Victor Lungren; and his son, Kirk Lungren on Oct. 29, 2013.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Charlene; children, Kerry (Larry) Lundvall and Mark Lungren all of Worland, Robert (Vicki) Lungren of North Platte, Neb. and Mary Jane (Gary) Schaff of Sidney, Mont. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his siblings, Irene Fritz, Lloyd (Ruth) Lungren, Dorothy Scheuerman and Bernie (Jack) Stine, all of Worland, and Sharon (Bruce) Perryman of Cheyenne as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Ruben will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Partelow officiating, assisted by Rev. Doug Fourtner. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.
The viewing will be held at the Veile Mortuary Chapel on Friday, Jan. 10 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The casket will also be open at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the start of the service."
