Leonard Winston "Winnie" Farrow, 83, of 20 Cherry St., Bartonville, died at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born on Aug. 23, 1922, in Peoria County, Ill., he was the son of LeRoy and Mary Edna Bloom Farrow. He married Edith Edie Petkovsek on Nov. 9, 1946, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 2000, in Bartonville.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mardee Lauterbach; and one brother, Chic Farrow.

Surviving are one son, David Thomas Farrow of Dahinda, Ill.; four grandchildren, Matthew Lauterbach of Bossier, La., Aaron Lauterbach of Dallas, Texas, Toby Farrow of Canton and Heather Rademaker of Glasford; three stepgrandsons, Dustin Evans of Bartonville, Jason Evans of Little Rock, Ark., and Ryan Cardwell of Chicago; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Elizabeth) Rapp of Metamora; and one son-in-law, retired Col. Randy (Sharon) Lauterbach of Benton, La.

He was a United States WWII Marine veteran, where he served in the North and South Pacific War areas. He was inducted on Aug. 20, 1942, and honorably discharged on Dec. 7, 1945, having obtained the rank of private first class.

Winnie was a member of the Schiller Masonic Lodge #335 Peoria, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and Mohammed Temple of Peoria. He was a member and past director of the directors staff at Mohammed Temple, past Temple director of the Mohammed Temple and past member and president of the Mohammed Brass Band.

He was a past board member and president of the Bartonville Grade School and the Limestone High School. He was also the past president of the Cornbelt School Assoc., Bartonville Little League and Bartonville Pony League.

Winnie was a former member of the Bartonville Fire Department and an active member of the board of directors of the Illinois Fuel Merchants.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, where he was a past board member and president of the Bethel Lutheran Church Council and past president of the Bethel Lutheran Church Brotherhood.

He was the business manager for Farrow Chix Sports Arena. He was the vice president of Western Coal and Fuel and the past president of the Creek Coal Company. He co-founded and was serving as president of the Morton Body and Equipment Company.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel, with Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Eimo Hinrichs and Rev. Craig Hislope will officiate. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.

There will be a luncheon immediately following the services for family and friends at the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bartonville Fire and Rescue Squad or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
