Abraham Andrews Dies in South
BERKELEY, July 18. - Mrs. Harry Crockett, widow of the teller of the Berkeley branch of the Oakland Bank of Savings, who recently was drowned at Martinez, received word this morning of the death of her grandfather, Abraham Andrews, at Los Angeles. Andrews was 86 years of age, one of the early American settlers in the West and a pioneer resident of Oakland.
Mrs. Crockett was at the home of her grandfather in Los Angeles at the time of the death of her husband. The latter, well known in this city and a graduate of the University of California, had been sailing on Suisun bay with A. J. Keller of this city when the boat in which they rode was overturned and both men were thrown into the water. Keller was rescued by fishermen but Crockett drowned.
Andrews was in ill health at the time and he has been failing since that time. Death was the result of old age. The remains will arrive here tomorrow from Los Angeles and the funeral cortege will move directly from the train to Evergreen Cemetery, where interment services will be held.
