Harold J. Dawson
Layton – Harold John Dawson 74, of 481 Church, died Wednesday, April 30 1986 at his home of heart failure.
He was born June 1, 1911 in Bountiful, Utah, a son of Alexander and Mary Catherine Green Dawson.
He married Doris Marston Jan. 25, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was a lifelong resident of Layton.
He graduated from Davis High School in 1930. He had played on the football team and was on the track team for four years. He won a medal for the Cross Country Race.
He was retired from the U.S. Layton Post Office as postmaster after 29 years of postal service. He had also been a beekeeper and farmer. He had worked at the Ogden Arsenal, Navy Depot, Ogden terminal and the Layton Sugar Factory.
He was a member of the Layton 11th LDS ward where he had served as ward clerk, temple attendance coordinator, secretary for the YMMIA and was the High Priest's quorum leader. He had also served on the Sunday School Board. He served an LDS Stake Mission from January 1949 to July 1951.
He was a member of the National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
Surviving are his widow of Layton, two sons and three daughters, Mark H. Dawson, Reno, Nev.; Lowell R. Dawson, Rock Springs, Wyo.; Mrs. Dan (Karlene D.) Greenwood and Mrs. Gary (k. Joyce) Barker, both of Layton; Mrs. Delbert (Pat S.) Morris, Littleton, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 12 noon at the Layton Stake Center, 60 West Gordon, with Bishop Richard Allen officiating.
Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 N. Fairfield Road, and on Monday at the chapel from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
