He served honorably as a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army, Co. F, 103 Infantry, 43 Div., during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received and the Silver Star for exceptional service during the Battle of Luzon.
From 1971 until 1986, he and his wife, Beverley, owned and operated Berry & Berry Floral. He was previously employed as a painter at the Veterans Administration Center at Togus for 33 years.
Mr. Berry was a member of St. Giles Episcopal Church of Jefferson, where he had served on the bishop's committee; member and former officer of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Auburn; member of R.B. Capen Rebecca Lodge of Augusta, Eureka Rebecca Lodge of Gardiner; Disabled American Veterans of Augusta; Purple Heart Society; Windsor Historical Society, Whitefield Lions Club and the American Legion.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Margaret Knox; and three half-brothers, Elbridge Jones, Charles Berry and Harold Bowers.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Beverley F. (Cunningham) Berry, of Windsor; two sons, Nathaniel L. "Rusty" Berry IV of New Gloucester and David C. Berry of West Paris; three grandchildren, Teague Berry of Windsor, Frances Berry-Worcester of Hooksett, N.H., and Margaret Berry of Hollis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
