Thorphn J. "T.J." Christopherson, 63, Ipswich, SD, formerly of New Effington, SD, died Monday, November 14, 2005, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 18, 2005, at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD, with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating.

Burial was in the Scandia Cemetery, rural Sisseton, SD. Military honors were provided by the Read-Veflin American Legion Post #180 of New Effington, SD.

Honorary pallbearers were all of his card playing friends. Active pallbearers were his nephews, Donnie Christopherson, Ronnie Christopherson, Joey Christopherson, Brent Wolfe, John Christopherson, Chris Christopherson, and Terry Thuringer.

Visitation at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD.

Thorphn J. Christopherson was born April 26, 1942, in Madison, MN, to Joseph and Alice (Siedschlag) Christopherson. He was baptized at the Zoar Lutheran Church in Marietta, MN, and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church, rural Sisseton, SD. He attended country school at Hart #2 and high school in Sisseton and New Effington. After finishing school, he worked in Minneapolis, MN, and later Rapid City, SD.

On November 8, 1967, he was drafted into the United States Army where he was a member of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was discharged June 30, 1969.

After returning home, Thorphn worked at the Hammer Elevator.

On July 2, 1974, he married Gail Duwenhoegger at Sundance, WY. In 1979, they moved to Ipswich, SD, where he worked at the Craven Elevator.

Thorphn was a member of the Sisseton VFW and American Legion in Ipswich and New Effington. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling, and his black lab dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Gail of Ipswich, SD; his dog, PeeWee; mother, Alice Christopherson of Sisseton, SD; two daughters, Dawn Flint of Folsom, CA, and Elizabeth Goodwin of Folsom, CA; four grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Jack) Thuringer of Sioux Falls, SD; and Doris (Verne) Wolfe of Claire City, SD; and two brothers, Harlyn (Betty) Christopherson of Peever, SD, and Marvin (Gwen) Christopherson of New Effington, SD.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe.
