About 1895, Joseph (French/Scot heritage) emigrated from Greenfield, Ontario, Canada to the US. He first lived in Saganaw, Michigan and then Duluth MN. He held a variety of jobs eventually was an insurance agent. He married (Julia) Ann Casey and they had four children: Doris, Loretta, Glen (Bud) and Eileen. He was very proud to be an American citizen and was overjoyed that his only son was born on the 4th of July. In 1925 he moved his family to the Minneapolis area to become a district insurance agent. He and his wife had a cabin on Nokay Lake near Brainerd MN.
