Kathern Grace Cook, 92, of Arkansas City, died Monday (January 20, 2014) at Medicalodge of Arkansas City. A double funeral with her son John Roger Cook (January 19, 2014) is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday (January 24, 2014) at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery.
Kathern was born August 19, 1922, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, to Charles Badley and Lucille (Webb) Badley Thompson. She was reared and educated in Western Oklahoma, close to Woodward. She attended schools in Putman, Newkirk and Camargo, Oklahoma, graduating from Camargo, Oklahoma in 1942. She married John A. Cook on March 2, 1946, in Arkansas City. She was a longtime employee at Graves Drugs and a clerk for Newman's Dry Goods. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Christian Women's Club, and the National Association of Retired Railway Employees.
Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Ann Ryel of Schertz, Texas; three half brothers Wayne Thompson of Lexington, Oklahoma, Don Thompson of Newkirk, Dale Thompson of Columbus, Mississippi; a half sister of Fern Leyya of Newkirk; three grandsons Jason, Jeremy and Joshua Ryel; and four great-grandchildren Sara, Lucy, Krystal and Jennifer Ryel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son John Roger Cook and siblings William, Hazen, Albert and George Badley, and a sister Gertrude Mayfield.
A memorial has been established to assist with funeral expenses for her son John Roger Cook. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
