Located on the Waterloo battlefield is this monument to the French who died at the farmhouse of Hougemont. The house was in the center of the battlefield and had to be taken before the infantry could advance and smash Wellington's center. It was taken briefly and 20,000 French infantry under General d'Erland advanced by failed to take the ridge due to a counter attack by the Scots Grays Calvary.
