Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 6th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 26, 1861, He was found to have deserted on October 18, 1862, and was returned to duty on March 1, 1864. When the enlistments of the original members of the regiment expired in September 1864, he was transferred to Company E, 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He served through the conclusion of the conflict, and was honorably mustered out on July 17, 1865.
