Alamanda is the son of Ned Bethune and Millie Unknown. He was born in Sammy Swamp, Clarendon county, SC and is a brother to Mary, Rufus, Madison, Annie, Laura and Theodore Bethune.

Alamanda married Ella or Ellen Unknown and they are the parents of several children including Saint Luke and Grant Bethune.
In his later years Alamanda was cared for in the Asylum in Columbia and after a stay of almost 10 years died of chronic Bright's Disease (kidney disease) and insanity.
His son, Saint Luke, also died in an asylum, in Goldsboro, NC, in his later years and is buried on the asylum grounds there.
