BETHALTO William L. "Bill" Atchison, 70, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1935, in Granite City to Robert and Georgina (Daniels) Atchison. He married the former Betty Sue Pruett on Oct. 5, 1957, in Granite City. She died Nov. 13, 2004. With his wife, he opened Airport Plaza Bowl in Bethalto on Aug. 16, 1974. Over the past 31 years, many memories will be cherished of him at the bowling alley he owned and operated. He will be remembered for the love of his family and the many charitable contributions he helped with throughout the community. He was a member of the Alton Moose Lodge 951 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 254. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joyce Atchison of Bethalto; one grandson, Jason Atchison of Bethalto; one brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Val Atchison; and six sisters and their husbands, Johanna King, Barbara and Dick Rush, Sheilah and Kenny Gross, Nadine and Doug Dixon, Colette and Emmett Crowder and Deborah and Randy Streetman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Elias-Smith Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bethalto, where Pastor Jerry Liebold Jr. will conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Entombment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
