Betty Sue Atchison of Bethalto, Illinois passed away at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.She was born July 26, 1935 in Waverly, Tennessee to the late William "Pete" and Katie Bell (Page) Pruett. She married William L. "Bill" Atchison on October 5, 1957 in Granite City, Illinois and he survives.She retired in 1985 as a inspector with Olin after 23 years of dedicated service. On August 16, 1974, at 6:00 p.m. along with her husband, they opened Airport Plaza Bowl in Bethalto. Over the past thirty years, many memories will be cherished of her at the bowling alley she owned and operated. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Alton Lodge #951 and the Westerner Club and will be remembered for the love of her family and the many charitable contributions she helped with throughout the community.In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived and will dearly be missed by one son and daughter in law, Mike and Joyce Atchison of Bethalto; one grandson, Jason Atchison of Bethalto; two sisters and brother in laws, Ellen "Gayle" and Bill Jacobs of Granite City, Vickie and Bob Fry of Granite City; six brothers and three sister in laws, William and Joy Pruett of Granite City, Ronnie and Debbie Pruett of Granite City, Gene Pruett of Waverly, Tennessee, Danny Pruett of Granite City, Steve and Angela Pruett of Granite City, Larry Pruett of Granite City; one brother in law, Jerry Liebold of Granite City; nineteen special nieces and nephews; brother in laws, sister in laws, other extended family and many friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Pruett and one sister, Bonnie Ruth Liebold.In Celebration of her life, Visitation will be at Elias-Smith Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bethalto on Tuesday, November 16, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17 with Rev. Jeff Smith officiating.Entombment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
