Mary Evelyn (Farrar) Bond, 96, died at the Bells Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Georgianna (Pflueger) Farrar. Also, preceding her in death were her husband Elias King Bond; her brother James A. Farrar and her little sister Irene. Her son Judge John Bate Bond also preceded her in death.

Mary Evelyn Bond graduated from Grove High School, Paris, TN in 1935 and was valedictorian of her class. She received a scholarship to Memphis Normal Teacher' College and graduated in 1939. She later received her Masters + 45 degree at the University of Memphis.

After college, she worked for the Tennessee civil service until 1940. Then she worked for the U.S. War Department civil service at Camp Tyson in Paris, TN.

While there, she met Elias King Bond, and they were married on May 17, 1940. During WWII, she and her husband lived in Spokane, WA. Upon returning to Brownsville, she began teaching business at Haywood High School.

In 1959, she and her family moved to Tucson, AZ for her husband's health. In 1962, she moved back to Brownsville and resumed teaching there until her retirement in 1982.

She leaves her children Mary Ann Shaw (Lynn); Dr Elias King Bond, Jr. (Louanne); Helen Shelly (Jerry); her daughter-in-law Barbara Roy Bond. Her grandchildren are Patrick King Bond (Stephanie); Andrew McGill Bond; Eli Matthew Bond; Mary Margaret Lonon (Billy); Elias Shane Bond (Molly); John Bate Bond, Jr. (Karley); Stephen Scofield; Elizabeth Scofield. Her great-grandchildren are Evan King Bond; Chase Bond; John William Bond; Elizabeth Bond; Bond Lonon; Walt Lonon. Mary Evelyn Bond also leaves her nephew Dr John Farrar and her nieces Jimmie Lynn Phillips and Ann Maxwell (Gypsy).

Mary Evelyn Bond belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville; she had sung in the choir and was past president of her Sunday School Class. She was a member of the First Review Club, the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers' Society and the Retired Teachers Association and had been president of those organization.

The family would like to thank the employees of the Bells Nursing Home for their kind and patient care.

Funeral services will be held in the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:30 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church and go until service time. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 117 Franklin Street, Brownsville, TN 38012.
