Adolf Harbart was born July 29, 1902 in Rumunki Glodowo (near Lipno), Poland. He was the oldest child of Karl Harbart and Anna Semrau. The Harbarts were part of the large German diaspora living in Poland at the time. When he was about 18 years old - to avoid serving in the newly created Polish army - he left home and slipped across the border into Germany. For several years he worked in a brewery in Lubzt (learning the brewing trade), and also worked whatever other odd jobs he could in order to make a living.

On April 06, 1925, Adolf emigrated to the United States and stayed briefly with his uncle Adolf Harbart (his father Karl's younger brother), who had emigrated 30 years earlier.

On October 21, 1928, Adolf married Madeline Beylich. Together they made their home in Brooklyn, and had 2 children:

Carl - 1935
Lois - 1936

Adolf worked for 34 years as a brewer and shift foreman at Schaefer Brewing Company in Brooklyn. He retired in 1967. Adolf's wife Madeline died of cancer on April 13, 1970. The next year, on May 1, 1971, he remarried to Florence Blauvelt-Hartman. Florence passed away on May 29, 1986.

Adolf passed away in Danbury, Connecticut on December 30, 1989, at the age of 87. He is buried alongside his first wife Madeline in the Lutheran Cemetery in Brooklyn.
