On May 11, 1957 he married Joyce Hahn in Plymouth.Woody was a cheesemaker after high school. He later worked at Kohler Company for 40 years, retiring in 1998.Woody was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Church, Town of RhineHe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a hardworking, hard playing man who enjoyed the outdoors. Woody was a former member of the Hermitage Conservation Club, where he was the President for many years and held other offices, He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited & The Turkey Federation.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting and playing cards. No matter how sick he was he enjoyed watching any football game. He built bird houses, raised pheasant on his game farm and enjoyed working in the orchard he started.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce, five children; Robin (Jeff) VerVelde, Howards Grove, Rick Neils, Glenbulah, Michelle Pfeifer, Kiel, Julie Wagy, Plymouth, Shawn Neils and fiance, Katie Baumgartner, Elkhart Lake, two grandchildren, Andrew (Rachel) VerVelde, Collin VerVelde and one great grandchild on the way.. He is further survived by two brothers; William (Theresa) Neils, Jerome Neils, two sisters; Gladys Mueller, Lois Brault, sister-in-law, Mutzie Neils, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Wagy, two brothers, Milan (Beatrice) Neils, Warren Neils, two sisters, Ruth (Hank) Arpke, Arleen (Hugh) Gahagan, brothers-in-law, Milton Mueller, Dale Brault, & Jerry Hahn.
Funeral services for Woody will be held at St. Peter Evangelical Church, W5375 Co. Rd FF Elkhart Lake, with Pastor Herb Becker officiating.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
