Arleen L. Gahagan, a resident of Willowdale Nursing Home and formerly of Kiel went home to her Lord on Wednesday May 25, 2011. She was born on January 19, 1925 in Rhine Center, daughter of the late William and Hattie (Platz) Neils. Arleen attended Dewey School in Rhine Center and graduated from Elkhart Lake High School, Class of 1943.On August 5, 1944 she married Hugh Gahagan at St. George Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. They resided in Plymouth, Elkhart Lake, Cleveland and Kiel throughout their 43 years together. They especially enjoyed going up to the cottage together during the summer and fall seasons. Huey preceded her in death on December 27, 1987. Arleen retired from Tecumseh Products in New Holstein after working there for 21 years. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel where she belonged to the Christian Women. She was also a Gold Star Mother with the Cleveland VFW.A better Packer fan than Arleen could never be found. She wouldn't even answer the phone during a game for fear of missing a great play. Before her illness the highlight of her day was going to breakfast with her many "coffee friends" and volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul in Kiel and the Kiwanis Food Stand at Road America. She also enjoyed playing cards and going to the casinos with her many friends. Each and every one of them was treasured. Her world famous German Potato Salad will be missed at future family get-togethers.She is survived by her 3 children: Sandra (Richard) Entringer of Valders (Pigeon Lake), Charles (Diane) Gahagan of Cleveland, David (Janet) Gahagan of Cato.
