OBITUARY NOTICE;
Funeral Today for Col. Knight
Tarboro -- A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Calvary Episcopal Church for retired Col. Louis Braswell Knight, 72, who died early Saturday morning in Edgecombe General Hospital after a short illness. Burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Retired from military service all around the world since 1917, Col. Knight was active in civic affairs in Tarboro where he made his home.
Col. Night was a native of Edgecombe County, son of the late Louis B. and Frannie Braswell Knight. He was graduated from N.C. State College in 1913 and joined the National Guard the same year. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1956 from Golden Gate College after he retired from the U.S. Army.
He served on the Mexican border in 1917 and joined the Regular Army thereafter. His additional tours of duty including World Wars i and ii were in the Philippines, Hawaii, Japan, China and Puerto Rico.
Col. Knight retired from the service in 1952. He received many awards for meritorious service.
He was first married to Augusta Charles of Washington, N.C., who died in 1958. Since 1958 Col. Knight made his home in Tarboro where he was general chairman of the successful Tarboro Bicentennial Celebration, a member of the Rotary Club, member of the Crisp Ruritan Club and member of the Hilma Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Daisy McLean Eagles Knight; a daughter, Mrs. E.J. Renth of Madrid, Spain a sister Mrs. E.N. Elliott of Edenton; a brother, R.V. Knight of Tarboro; and two grandchildren.
