Karen S. Weikel, 53, Sparta, died Thursday (Jan. 7, 1999) at her home following a battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 2, 1945, in Mount Vernon to the late Raymond Belcher and Verna Mae (Condit) Belcher who survives in Sparta. She was a lifelong Sparta-area resident and a member of Highland High School Class of 1963. Mrs. Weikel worked as a beautician for Joe's Beauty Salon, Sparta, for over 20 years.
She was a member of Sparta Advent Christian Church; former chairperson of the Morrow County Democratic Party; and served on the zoning board of South Bloomfield Township and the Morrow County Election Board. She and her husband recently completed the construction of their new home. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and tending her lawn.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Roger D. Weikel, whom she married Aug. 31, 1963; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and David Welle, Sparta; two sons and daughters-in-law Shawn and Kelly Weikel, Sparta, and Shad and Tamara Weikel, Marengo; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Gladys Belcher, Sparta, and Ken and Marlene Belcher, Lima; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Bill Young, Marengo, and Carla and Kelly Emmons, Marion; and six grandchildren, Kami, Kodi, Macey and Garrett Weikel and Michall and Logan Welle.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Bob Allen officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chesterville.
