Viola Adams Cox, known to all her friends as Vi, left this life to begin her new life in heaven on Monday, February 24th at the age of 93. Born to Edward and Mary Adams on April 19th, 1920, in Darlington, SC, she was the third of seven children. After graduating from nursing school, she joined the air force and served in an army unit in San Antonio Texas during WWII. On her journey home, she met Floyd W. Cox, jr. who became the love of her life and her husband. They made a life together in his hometown of Wrightsville Beach, NC. Together, they were the founding editors and publishers of the much loved local magazine "Life Around Wilmington". In addition to the magazine, Vi worked as a nurse at James Walker Memorial hospital until it closed, then at Davis Nursing Home until her retirement at age 72. She was also one of the oldest members of Wrightsville Beach United Methodist church as well as a Gold Star member of the American Legion Post 10. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd W Cox, jr. as well as three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one brother, Edwin L. Adams (Penny) of Atlanta Ga, three children, Becky Silva, Bubba Cox (Joyce) and Bobby Cox (Claudia), four grandchildren, Gwen Reilly, Donnie Pridgen, Brian Potter (Heather) and Charity Shannon, nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who all loved her very much. Viewing and visitation will be held at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel on Wednesday, February 26th from 6 pm- 8 pm. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Thursday, February 27th at Wrightsville Beach United Methodist Church at 11 am followed by a graveside service, with military honors, at Wilmington National Cemetery on Market St in Wilmington.
