In 1926, Della was diagnosed with cardiac problems which she was able to manage for several years.
In early 1932, Della became pregnant with her fourth child and, despite being advised of the risks pregnancy carried with her condition, she carried through the pregnancy.
She was put on bed rest at home, 274 Downington Avenue, later that fall and given digitalis to help manage her heart condition so she could carry her baby for as long as possible until doctors induced her.
In December, Della's heart was considered as "good as possible" for delivery, and she was induced on the 18th at the LDS Hospital. It initially failed, and as doctors tried to deliver her baby it became a very difficult labor.
Della's healthy baby boy was finally delivered that night, though her condition quickly worsened. She died at 9:40 pm, at the age of thirty-nine.
