The family moved to Chisholm where Mary graduated from high school in 1933. In 1936 she graduated from Hibbing Junior College.
Mary worked at Douglas Aircraft in Chicago for three years where she assembled airplanes for the armed forces for World War II; and managed Montgomery Wards in Hibbing and the Remington Stores.
On May 26, 1951 she married Carl J. Russo in Virginia. Mary worked for Brown Drug as a bookkeeper.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Virginia and its St. Monica's Guild; and a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She taught religious education for more than 30 years.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert (Kristine) Russo; grandchildren: Carl James (Sara Grant) Russo, Genna (Jeremy) Taittonen, and Tom (Fred Yang) Russo; one great-grandchild, and one on the way; brother, Thomas (Jeanne) Vecchi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Russo; parents, John and Adele (Fena) Vecchi; brothers: Americo Vecchi and John Vecchi Jr.; and sisters: Lucille Zoerner and Yolanda Greenly.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia.
