BURLEY – Willes Donald Blauer, 83, of Burley, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Highland Estates Assisted Living in Burley.

Willes, son of Henry William and Lucille Woodbury Blauer, was born on June 4, 1930, at his parents' home in View, Idaho. He attended grade school in View and graduated from Burley High School. While in high school, he ran cross country and competed in a State Track Meet.

Willes served a LDS mission in the Central States Mission. While attending Brigham Young University, he met Norene Blacker and they were married on July 22, 1953, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

In February of 1954, he joined the United States Army where he served honorably for two years. While stationed in Tacoma, Wash., their first two children were born.

After returning home, they settled in the Pella area where their other five children were born and Willes started farming. Eventually, he purchased 160 acres of land from his father-in law, Alma Blacker. He later developed an additional 80 acres. As his sons grew older, Willes and three of his sons purchased and leased additional ground. He had a love of feeding cattle and for many years also fattened lambs in the fall on beet tops.

Willes took great pride in working with his children, growing crops, working the ground, and "just" being a farmer.

In 1989, Willes and Norene moved from the farm in Pella to Burley where they have since resided.

Through the years, the LDS Church has been a very important part of his life. He has served in many positions including, Scout leader, teacher, home teacher, counselor in the bishopric and bishop of the Burley 10th Ward. Willes and Norene have also shared their home with many students of the Indian Placement Program.

Willes is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Norene Blauer; his children, Dan (Cheryl), of Burley, Deborah (Dan) Gilbert, of Blackfoot, Donald Craig (Lori), of Burley, Duane (Amy), of Declo, Dwight (Naomi), of Boise, Douglas (Kerina), of Burley, and Daren (Cheryl), of Meridian; one sister, Bonnie (Kenneth) Hansen; three brothers, Harold (Phyllis), Cecil (Merle) and Lorin (Jeri); a sister-in-law, Geaneen Blauer; 29 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clyde Blauer.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at the Burley LDS 2nd and 4th Ward Church, 515 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Bishop Clay Handy officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
