Hale Ritchie Dead
Pioneer Of Topeka Drops Dead While Chopping Wood
Hale Ritchie, 70 years old, who came to Topeka sixty-five years ago, dropped dead while he was chopping wood at his home, 1126 Madison street, about 3 o'clock Friday afternoon. The body was not found until early this morning. Mrs. Ritchie stated that she did not know her husband's whereabouts until he was found today.
Hale Ritchie was the son son of Col. John Ritchie came to Topeka in 1855 and has lived here continuously since that time.
He is survived by his wife and five children. Frank R. of San Francisco, and Fred H. and O.G. Ritchie, of Sacramento: John Ritchie, a farmer in Wabautsee county and Mrs. R. T. Wright, who lives near Grantville. The three sons in California are contractors, He also has a brother, John Ritchie, who is a contractor in Louisiana.
Funeral arrangements will not be completed until the sons arrive from California, it was said.
