Violet Dudley Harding, 82, of Crozet, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 3, 2014. She was surrounded by her family as she made her journey to Heaven. Violet was born in Crozet, Virginia, on September 20, 1931, to the late Frank and Margaret Dudley. In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, James Richard Harding; her daughter, Linda Harding McAllister; three brothers, Winifred S. Dudley, George F. Dudley, and Alan D. Dudley. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Barbara Harding Browning of Arvonia, Virginia, and Deborah Lynn Harding of Crozet, Virginia; three grandchildren, Valerie McAllister Schwartz and her husband, Dwayne, of Waynesboro, Virginia, Charles Richard Browning and friend, Teresa Vermilyea of Louisa, Virginia, and Amy Browning Pritchett and her husband, Scottie of Arvonia, Virginia; three great- grandchildren, Chelsey Browning, Savannah Pritchett, and Trevor Schwartz; four brothers, Cosby Dudley and his wife, Alice, Charles Dudley and his wife, Shirley, Joseph Dudley and his wife, Ruth, and James Dudley and his wife, Katherine; four sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dudley, Joanne Dudley, Margaret Nay, and Peggy Taylor and her husband, Raymond; and two sons-in-law, Melvin McAllister, and Charles Browning. Violet also had lots of nieces and nephews as well as great- nieces and nephews that she loved very much, especially Sandra Hancock and twins Reagan and Rachel Allen. The family would like to express great appreciation to Sylvia Woolford and family for all their loving care. To the dear friends of Violet, thank you for your continued love and support. And finally, special thanks to her Drs. Taylor, Sawyer, Hammond, and Pritchard and staff. Violet retired from Acme Visible Records after 48 years of service. She belonged to the American Legion, VFW Post # 8436, which she joined in 1955. Through the years she volunteered for many organizations, such as the Crozet Claudius Crozet Park and the Crozet Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. She was a member of Crozet Baptist, where she served the church by working in the nursery for approximately twenty years, with the Girls in Action group, Life Fellowship Secretary, and she volunteered in the church office. She took pleasure in being able to serve inside and outside of her church community. Violet had a big heart full of love for all those that she came to know. She was blessed with numerous "sons" she never had. She loved each and everyone of them and their families very much. Her greatest joy was when the great-grandchildren walked through her front door. The family wishes to thank Crozet Baptist members for all their love and support given to the family these past years. In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution in Violet's memory to the General Fund of Crozet Baptist, 5804 St. George Ave., Crozet, VA 22932. The family will receive friends at the Crozet Baptist Church on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Crozet Baptist Church and interment will follow at Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet.
