Bonanno Pisano was one of the people who started the first phase of the Tower of Pisa's construction. This landmark is one of the most famous bell tower in Italy. They realized that the tower had began to lean in 1173. This problem was irreversible. The lean was caused by bad sandy and marshy soil. The tower was known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The construction was believed to have been finished about 1350. Bonnano Pisano was buried at the foot of the Tower of Pisa. In 1820, his sarcophagus was discovered there.
