ESCONDIDO, CA Nelson Harold Ilgenfritz passed away in Escondido, California on February 24th at the age of 82.
He was laid to rest in Valley Center, California on March 4th. Nelson was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Mae Ilgenfritz, brother Alvin Richard "Dick" Ilgenfritz, sister Dolores Pauline Ilgenfritz and Parents Alvin Charles Ilgenfritz and Pauline Ethel Ilgenfritz.
Nelson is survived by his loving daughters, Marsha Ellen Owston of Lake Tahoe, California and Anne Marie Nelson of Valley Center, California; brother Donald Dale Ilgenfritz and sister Fern June Fickes. He is lovingly remembered by his three grandsons Derek, Steve and James Owston, and six great grandchildren.
Nelson was born in York, in 1931. He graduated from York High School in 1949 and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War as an electronics technician. Upon his return to York, he completed an A.S. degree at York Junior College in 1955. He went on to earn a B.S in Electrical Engineering from The University of Denver in 1957, followed by a M.A. from Claremont Graduate School in 1978. He enjoyed a long career as an aerospace engineer with General Dynamics (Pomona division) and Convair in San Diego.
He was a long time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Escondido, California. In retirement Nelson enjoyed maintaining his vintage Cadillacs, genealogical research, long walks at the Wild Animal Park in Escondido, and spending time with his daughters, Grandchildren and great grandchildren. He considered Lake Tahoe his second home, where he enjoyed the beauty of the natural environment and grandeur of the lake.
