Gene Bellis, 79, of Streator, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at AstaCare of Toluca.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home in Streator. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Streator.
He was born August 11, 1932 in Streator, a son of Andrew and Mary (Duay) Bellis. He married Janice Carbone on November 9, 1957. She died December 23, 1978. He later married Elaine Cheli in 1981. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by his sons: Jeff Bellis of Chandler, AZ, Kevin Bellis of Bloomington and Angelo Bellis of Sugar Land, TX; grandchildren: Zach, Jake, Chad and Nick; sisters: Delores, Catherine, Therese, Rosemary, Peggy, Barbara, Judith and Deb; and brothers: Richard, Lawrence, Michael and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
He was born in Streator and grew up in Odell. He attended St. Paul's grade school and graduated from St. Paul's high school in Odell. He moved to Streator after graduating from high school.
He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church.
