Nancy Lou Taylor, 74, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:52 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, after a brief battle with cancer.

Nancy was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Peoria to Merle C. and Edith M. Hampson Coon. She married Karl K. Taylor on Sept. 3, 1961, in Elmwood. He survives.

Also surviving are three children, David (Gail) Taylor of Pekin, Andrea (Eric) Johnson of Morton and Amy (Kirk) Steinbruecker of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Bennett Taylor, Taylor Johnson and Haley Johnson; her siblings, M. Wayne (Patricia) Coon of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Jeannie Coon of Princeville; and brothers-in-law, Bill Dorris of Peoria, David (Betty Rae) Coon, Ph.D., of Pullman, Wash., and Dr. John (Anita) Coon of Peoria.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Coon; and one sister, Mary Ann Dorris.

She was a league member of the Heartland Festival Orchestra, where she enjoyed hosting musicians in her home; a member and past president of the Peoria Fine Arts Society; a member of Washington Historical Society; and a founding member of the Washington ENCORE group of Peoria Symphony Orchestra.

She belonged to several book clubs and was a regular walker at Five Points. She was a member of PEO Chapter HG, where she held various offices and was past president.

Since the 1960s, she had been a member of Washington Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon, elder and financial secretary for 15 years. She also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed being Picture Lady and a room mother for PTA.

Nancy worked at several banks over the years, including Commercial Bank in Peoria as a teller, Boatmans Bank at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Busey Bank in Champaign and Washington State Bank while she raised her family. She also ran the book store at Canton College.

Interment will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery.
