Jan (John) Kubat was born in Drahotěšice, Bohemia, the son of Josef Kubat and Katerina Kočky. He came to Chicago around 1878. He married Mary Zmeskal on September 28, 1886. They had two daughters (Emma and Rose) before he died in 1894.
