Brigadier Goldie Marie Kitchen, 83, of 415 Brookglenn Road, died April 14, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

A native of Logan, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Martin Tracy Sr. and Glee Perry Kitchen, and a member and retired officer of The Salvation Army, where she received the Long Service Award.

Brigadier Marie Kitchen entered the School of Officers training Sept. 9, 1941, and was commissioned May 26, 1942. Her first appointment was Huntington, W.Va.

From 1942 until retirement in 1972, she served in The Salvation Army field appointments in the following cities: Waynesboro, Va., Bluefield, W.Va., Kingsport, Tenn., New Orleans, La., Laurel, Miss., Tallahassee, Fla., Atlanta (Fulton), Ga., Brunswick, Ga., Augusta, Ga., and Savannah, Ga.

Surviving: Four brothers, Major Raymond Kitchen of Greenville, Major Robert Kitchen of Greenville, Martin Tracy Kitchen Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Klon Kitchen of San Antonio, Texas; and four sisters, G. Frances Hines of Greenville, Brigadier Virginia Carey of Greenville, Phyllis H. Anderson of Greenville, and Major Minnie Smith of Salisbury, Md. She was predeceased by one sister, Lillian Tiller.

Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at The Wood Mortuary, with services following at 11 a.m., conducted by Major Stanley Melton, Major Raymond Kitchen, and Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Janynes. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Harmon B. Anderson III, Harold B. Anderson, Howard B. Anderson, Harlan B. Anderson, Harvey B. Anderson and Hollis B. Anderson. Other nephews will served as honorary escort.

The family is at the residence.
