Mrs. Brigadier Virginia Kitchen Carey, 91, of 690 Iveybrooke Ave., widow of Major Howard Thomas Carey, died July 30, 2012 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.

A native of Logan West, Virginia, daughter of the late Martin Tracy and Glee Perry Kitchen, she was a retired minister for The Salvation Army.

Surviving are three brothers, Major Raymond Kitchen (Hope) and Major Robert Kitchen (Myrtle) all of Greenville and Klon K. Kitchen (Patricia) of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Major Minnie Smith (Ron) of Clearwater, Florida, Frances Hines of Greenville and Phyllis Anderson (Ben) of Greenville; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Ron Labonte.

Brigadier Carey was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Ann Carey and Phyllis Geraldine Labonte, one brother, Martin T. Kitchen, Jr., two sisters, Brigadier Marie Kitchen and Lillian Tiller.

Visitation will be held 10-10:45am Thurs, August 2, 2012 at The Salvation Army Kroc Corp and Community Center.

Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, August 2, 2012 at The Salvation Army Kroc Corp and Community Center, conducted by Captain Mark Hunter. Burial will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia. The families are at their respective homes.
