Anne is the youngest of 7 known children of Matthew & Elizabeth (née Nicholson) Carroll of Skerries, Ireland.

At St. Patrick Catholic Church, on April 24, 1824, Anne married the sailor Michael Gowan. She & Michael, who went on to become a Master Mariner, had 8 known children together. All were raised in Skerries. At least 4 of her 7 sons are known to have become Masters themselves, like their father.

She passed away at age 49, less than 2 years after her husband. It's unknown if The Famine of the latter 1840s, the Holocust perpetrated by Ireland's hostile occupiers, played a role in their early deaths.

✞ Anne Gowan is buried with her husband Capt. Michael in the family plot at Holmpatrick Graveyard. Buried with them are members of 3 more genertions of their family including their great-grandson Jack McGowan who died in battle for the fight to free all of Ireland from her hostile occupiers.
