Preceded in death by husband of 51 years, James; will be especially missed by her grandchildren. Lael lived a rich life defined by her Catholic faith, her love of family, her eagerness for learning, and her desire to serve others. A native of St. Paul, she attended Visitation Convent, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of St. Catherine. Lael was a Fulbright scholar in Poitiers, France. She then devoted herself to married life and her young children, and when her youngest turned 5, she went back to school, earning a Master's degree in History. Over 35 years, she worked as a Children's Librarian and Reference Librarian in the St. Paul, Minnesota and Hennepin County Libraries, establishing story hours and children's programs. But beyond her many talents, Lael had a true desire to share her gifts in service to others. Largely out of the spotlight, she has been a driving force in organizations such as the League of Women Voters, the Hope Community of Minneapolis, the South Shore Senior Center, and the Visitation Monastery of Minneapolis. She established libraries in St. John the Baptist parish school and in the impoverished fishing town of Chimbote, Peru. She researched and wrote family histories, the history of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph's school for art and music in the early 1900's. She leaves ad great legacy of courage, faith, love of learning and service to others.Private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
