Samuel Fobar was born in White County, Illinois, March 5, 1844, died February 15, 1929, age 84 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was the son of Peter and Nancy Fobar. He died at the home of his son Charles in North Carmi.

He was united in marriage with Marguerite Thompson. To this union was born one child, Charles Fobar of Carmi. His first wife preceding him in death, he was married to Adeline Barbre in 1880. This union was blessed with ten children, Josh of Denver, Col., the only one surviving, nine having preceded their father in death.

He was a veteran of the Civil War, a private in Co. E, 13th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry. The ranks of the Civil War veterans are thinning and another one has gone to join that never ending march. He will be missed by his few remaining comrades, who ere long will be as at the beginning.

Nobly thy course is run,
Splendor is all around it.
Bravely thy fight is won,
Victory has crowned it.
In thy warfare of heaven,
With crown old and hoary.
Thou art like the summer's sun,
Shrouded in Old Glory.

Funeral services were held from the Archer Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. Henry Kello. Interment in Maple Ridge cemetery.
