A longtime resident of Baker and a native of Marquette, Michigan, Philomene Scruggs passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Oakwood Village Assisted Living in Zachary.

She was 99, and retired in 1975 as a Data Processing Supervisor with the Louisiana DOTD. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, and attended LSU. She was active in many service organizations. She was Past President of Lane Memorial Auxillary, and was a member of the EBR Homemakers Club, Pilot Club of Baker, St. Isidore Altar Guild, Baker Historical and Cultural Foundation, and EBR Bowling Assn. She served on the Board of the LA Women's International Bowling Assn, and was secretary of the La. Miss. District of Pilot International. She was chosen Pilot of the Year by Baker Pilot Club 1981-82, and was a member of several Bridge clubs in the Baker and Zachary area.

Visiting at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, until Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. Frank Bass. Interment to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Arrangements entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.

Survived by a niece, Patricia Oustalet of New Orleans; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Scruggs; parents, Doctor Arthur and Nellie A. Young; and a sister, Mary A. Sherlock.
