Mrs. Kathleen Allie Murphy, 97, of Frederick, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Murphy, who preceded her in death in 2002.

Born May 28, 1916, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Milliard and Elizabeth (Burke) Barthlow, Sr. Mrs. Murphy worked for 50 years by her husband's side to establish the family business of Charles F. Murphy, Inc. She was member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Zonta and the Jug Bridge Homemakers Club.

Surviving are her children and their families: daughter, Nancy Walker and husband Edward of Rockville, granddaughter, Susan Scola and husband George, great-grandchildren, Joseph and Rachel Scola, grandson-in-law, Andrew Potter, great-grandchildren, Meredith, Shannon and Christopher Potter; granddaughter, Caroline McAllister and husband Daniel, great-grandson, Patrick McAllister; granddaughter, Beth Snover and husband Jay, great-grandchildren, Sally, James, Mary and Charles Snover; grandson, Lewis Murphy, great-grandchildren, Graham, Madison and Kelly Murphy; son, Dennis Murphy and wife Sandra of Frederick, grandchildren, John Murphy and wife Karla and Erin Long and husband John; daughter, Marjorie Pittinger and husband Nelson of Frederick, granddaughter, Emily Kuster and husband Michael, great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Jackson and Jameson Kuster; grandson, Adrian Pittinger, granddaughter, Eleanor Pittinger. She will be remembered by Robyn Potter and her children, Zachary, Tyler and Emily, as well as Joseph and Ashley Wilt and Tamsyn Long, Mary Alice Stup, her devoted niece, and numerous nieces and nephews from the Barthlow and Murphy families.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Murphy and wife Sally, brothers, Milliard Barthlow, Jr. and Russell Barthlow, sisters, Betty Miller, Madeline Smith, Margaret Crum and Gertrude Grove.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7pm, on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the All Saints Episcopal Church 106 W. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The Rev. Earl Mullins will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Murphy's honor to All Saints Episcopal Church at the above address or to Hospice of Frederick Co., P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
