Aged 83 yrs, 2 mos, 24 days.

Daughter of Oliver and Elizabeth (High) Barrett. Widow of Ara Cummings.

Summit County Beacon, Thursday, Sept. 26, 1867, 2:6:

"DIED - In this city, Sept. 19, 1867, of paralysis, Mrs. Bathsheba Cumings, aged 83 years and 2 months.

Mrs. Cumings was the wife of Mr. Ara Cumings, for many years a well-known and respected citizen of this place, who preceded her to his last resting place a year and a half ago. She was born in Windsor, Vt., June 24, 1784; removed with her husband to Ohio, in 1840, and after a brief residence in Zanesville, settled in Akron.

In the early years of her life, Mrs. C. became a member of the Baptist Church in her native place, in whose fellowship she has remained until the day of her death, exhibiting throughout a consistent life the controlling presence of christian principle. And even when the infirmities of age, during the last years of her life, rendered her entirely dependent upon the increased care of others, the gentleness and simplicity of the christian virtues witnessed to the power of the faith that sustained her to the end.

Her funeral was attended on the 20th inst. by a large number of friends. Two children, George N. Cumings Esq., of Zanesville, O., for many years an honored member of the Muskingham Bar, and Miss Calista Cumings, known in this city as Editress of the 'Akron Offering' entered before their parents the 'house appointed for all living'. Three children survive, two daughters, now of this place, (one of whom, during the years of their declining life, has devoted herself wholly to the care of these aged parents,) and a son residing in Iowa."
