Mishicot - Douglas G. Emond, age 83, longtime resident of Mishicot, died early Saturday morning, April 24, 2021 at the Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay following a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side. Doug was born in Two Rivers on June 27, 1937 to Everett and Elsie (Cerkas) Emond. He attended grade school at St. Luke's in Two Rivers and was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. Doug then proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy, Seabees Division from 1955 until 1959. He was very proud of the time he served in the Navy and continued friendships with many of the Seabees company until his death. On June 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Strauss at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarks Mills. The couple was blessed with almost 58 years of marriage until Shirley's untimely death on June 19, 2017. Doug served his community for many years as a police officer for the Manitowoc County Sheriffs Department, retiring in 1993. Doug enjoyed fishing, taking annual Canada trips with friends and family and bringing home trophy fish; he enjoyed spending time at his cottage up north and making memories with family. He took pride in his yard, and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He loved traveling, going on many trips with his beloved wife; and enjoyed Seabees reunions, reuniting with old friends. He especially loved and enjoyed the sunshine in Florida on trips with his family, and his most recent trip to Germany to see his grandson who is serving in the United States Army. He forever cherished time spent with his family. Doug was a hard worker his entire life. He was an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather. He had a soft spot for animals, especially all of his beloved pets, most importantly his special little dog, "Buddy". His sense of humor, his care for his wife, kids, and grandchildren was extraordinary. He was the foundation of his family, Solid as a Rock. He was someone you could count on for anything you needed. His smile and care for those he loved, will forever be missed. He is survived by his four loving children: Dennis Emond of Sheboygan, Scott Emond of Colorado, Cindy (Jim) Siebert of rural Manitowoc, and Michele (Jason) Hubbartt of Manitowoc; four cherished grandchildren: Douglas Siebert, Jonathan Siebert, Landon Hubbartt, and Lily Hubbartt; and one brother & sister-in-law, Jim (Linda) Emond of Two Rivers. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Dan O'Connor of Two Rivers; sister-in-law, Judy Emond of Manitowoc; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Emond family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses of the oncology unit at Aurora BayCare Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our dear father and grandfather. Special thanks to Dr. Dhimant Patel, Melissa NP, and Jennifer PA who genuinely cared for our wonderful father. A special thank you also to Molly RN, his nurse who showed such great compassion to not only our dad, but to all of us in his final days. Our Dad was one-in-a-million! After our mom passed, he showed such unyielding strength and love for his family to get us all through that difficult time. He faced every adversity with strength and humor.......... In our Dad's famous words, "Doug Emond here, What can I do for you? I'm always here" It brings us great peace knowing our parents are finally reunited and together once again. Dad, we will love you forever, give Mom a hug from us. We miss you both more than words.
