Born in Great Preston West Yorkshire to Alma and Priscilla Smales. Baptised in the Wesleyan Methodist Chappel Kippax West Yorkshire on 17 May 1891. He was Buried on the 15th September 1951.
He married Elsie Hazeldine Sykes on the 9th June 1919 in the United Methodist Church High Street Horbury Yorkshire.
