Lisa (Glaser) Tyre of Canton, MA, formerly of Jamestown, RI Thursday, March 20, 2014. Born in Vienna, Austria she and her family escaped the Holocaust arriving in the United States from New Zealand in 1947.

She began her studies at the University of New Zealand and received her B.A. in French from UCLA. She earned her MS in Library Science from UC Berkeley. Mrs. Tyre began her professional career as an instructor of German at Reed College in Portland, OR. She then became the French and German coach at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She served as Director of the Radnor, PA School District Libraries before assuming the directorship of the Episcopal Academy Libraries in Lower Merion, PA.

After relocating to Rhode Island, Mrs. Tyre was named a professor of German at Salve Regina University in Newport. She was the originator of the Film Studies Program at the Circle of Scholars at Salve Regina and served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown Philomenian Library. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Tyre, and was the loving mother of Marcie Tyre Berkley & her husband Forrest Berkley of Concord MA, Geoffrey Tyre of Kwajalein, the Marshall Islands, Nicole Tyre & her husband Phil Drozd of Ardmore, PA.

Her eldest child, Shelley Tyre was drowned in 1999. Lisa Tyre was the cherished grandmother of Taylor Scott Berkley and Lincoln Thatcher Berkely and the dear sister of Frank Glaser of Palos Verdes, CA. A Memorial Service will held at the Orchard Cove Retirement Community, 1 Del Pond Drive, Canton, MA on Friday, March 28, at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Newport Music Festival (for Classical Music), PO Box 3300, Newport, RI 02840.
