River Desert, Quebec, lost one of its leading citizens on Tuesday, February 23rd, when Andrew Baxter passed away. Mr. Baxter ran a sawmill and lumber business. He had been a resident of the Desert for the past eighteen years, going to that place from a farm on the Gatineau. In his younger days he lived in Fitzroy Township, Carleton County, and his wife, Mary Baird, was a Fitzroy lady, a daughter of the late John Baird of the 10th line. She survives, there are no children. Much sympathy is felt for her in the untimely death of her husband, who had not yet reached the three-score mark. The funeral which took place on the 25th was attended by Messrs. Robert and George Baird of Diamond.
