BIOGRAPHY

Around 1840, Paul McAdoo was born in the state of Georgia to parents whose names are unknown at this time. Given the time period, it is fair to assume he was born a slave given that slavery was not abolished until 1865. Documented records of Paul are first shown in 1880, who was listed as 40 years old and married. His wife's names was Queen who was 25 at the time placing her birth around 1855. Her maiden (or slave name is not known) but records indicate that she and her parents were from Georgia. The 1880 census show that the two had five kids in 1880. Richard, age 14, Wilson, age 12, Sally, age 8, Mary, age 6, and Mamie, age 4. Richard, just like his father, was listed as a farm laborer. According to the census, no one in the family could read or write at this time. In the Georgia Property Taxes for 1793-1892, Paul McAdoo is shown as property to his slave owner.

Paul and Queen appear again in the 1900 Census, where Paul is 60 years old and Queen is listed as 48 years old and born in 1852. Paul remained as a farmer and rented the land he farmed. At this time, Paul had the ability to read, write, and speak English. It should be noted that in the census there was a misspelling of the last name where the Census writer spelled it Machadoo. In the household were three children, Henry, age 17 born in Sept. 1882, Kate age 13 born in Oct. 1886, and Nancy, age 11 born in March 1899. Both Kate and Nancy had attended some schooling. The census indicated that Queen was the mother of eight children with four living at this time. The name of the 8th child is unknown. If a census for the McAdoo is found for 1890, it may reveal the name of the child.

Paul and Queen had been married for 19 years according to the 1900 census, placing there marriage year around 1881.
