Born in Odum, Georgia on January 3, 1933, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Altman was a homemaker but had also worked with the Spatola Shoe Factory for several years. She loved to cook and can vegetables and was known for her chocolate peanut butter cake. An outgoing woman, she loved camping, fishing and babysitting her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Altman was a member of the Blackshear Church of God and was a former long-time member of the Offerman Church of God.
She was a daughter of the late Joseph Lawton & Oletia Griffis Altman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Allen "J.A." Altman; her step-mother, Susie Youmans Thornton; a daughter-in-law, Lynnette Henderson Altman; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Sharpe and Chip Altman; and a sister, Lynette Davis.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Wilson and Harriett and David Williams all of Blackshear; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joey Altman, Troy & Shanda Altman and Stevie & Brandy Altman all of Blackshear; a sister, Navonia Bargeron of Blackshear; 8 grandchildren, Scott (Azuree) Williams, Stacy Williams, Christie (Christopher) Douberly, Nicholas Hickox, Heather Altman (fiance', Brad Cunningham), Casie (Caleb) Mattox, Seth Altman, and Sara Altman; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Satilla Hospice House, 811 Beacon Street, Waycross, GA 31501.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services for Mrs. Altman will be held Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014, at 11:00 o'clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.
