Born June 24, 1939 in Shawmut, AL, she was the daughter of the late George Mitchell and Margie Clark Gresham and was also preceded in death by one half-brother. Mrs. Austin was a former bookkeeper for Schewel Furniture Co., Grand Piano, and Reams Furniture Co. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Austin is survived by three children, Michael Austin and Kevin Austin both of Lynchburg and Patricia A. Metts and husband, Robert, of Concord; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Melinda Drive with Bishop Chris McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst County, where Military Honors will be presented.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.
